PREVIEW: Softball Travels Down I-49 for Single Game

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team will travel down I-49 to in-state rival, Northwestern State for a single game at 6:00 pm on Wednesday in non-conference action.

The Ladies are 9-26 overall and 2-12 on the road this season. Centenary hasn't played since its last non-conference game against Central Arkansas last Thursday when it fell 8-0 in five innings.

Centenary, as a team, is hitting just .218 led by junior Sara Dornelas with a .281 and a team-best 25 hits. Senior Allison Shepperd follows with a .264 average and 10 doubles. Sophomore Kalyn Harris leads the team with 20 RBI.

On the mound, Dornelas holds a team-low 4.18 ERA and is 8-18 on the season. The righty has tossed 129.0 innings, allowing 161 hits and 79 strikeouts. Junior Lauren Highsmith has picked up the other win for the Ladies as she is 1-3 on the season and owns a 7.18 ERA.

Northwestern State comes into Wednesday's contest with a 21-21 record and is 10-6 at home.

Samantha Roberts paces the Lady Demons at the plate with a .364 average and a team-best five home runs and 30 RBI.

Kyle Roos is 10-8 on the season with a 2.95 ERA to lead Northwestern State in the circle.

Centenary and Northwestern State met earlier this season as the Ladies took a 3-1 win over the Lady Demons. Shepperd paced the offense with a 1x3 with a two-run home run, while Dornelas picked up the win.

Centenary will travel to UMKC this weekend for a three-game series starting at 3:00 pm CT on Friday.
