SHREVEPORT-Junior Scott Pasket's sacrifice fly in the 10th inning capped a huge 2-1 victory for the Centenary baseball team over I-49 rival, Northwestern State, on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

The Gents connected on 11 hits and took advantage of two Demon errors to improve their overall record to 20-16 on the season.

Pasket led the way offensively with a 2x4 performance, driving in both Centenary runs, while junior Alex Todd was 2x5 with a run scored and senior Jeff Ericson was 2x5.

Junior Keegan Acker (1x2, 2 BB), senior Cliff Shepard (1x4, R), junior Derek Dalzell (1x3), senior Michael Tompkins (1x4), and freshman Ryan Bell (1x3) each had a hit.

Senior Dakota Robinson (1.0,1,0,0,0,0) tossed the 10th inning, allowing just one hit to earn the win and improve to 3-1 on the season.

Tompkins (8.0,7,1,1,0,4) pitched 8.0 complete innings, giving up one run on seven hits with four strikeouts, but was relieved by senior Jimmy Hoyt (1.0,1,0,0,0,0) who threw the ninth out of the pen, holding the Demons to one hit and escaping the inning on a groundout double-play.

Northwestern State took a 1-0 lead in the second when Tyler Baisley homered to left center.

Centenary wasn't able to gain any early momentum as they stranded four runners through the first four innings. However, in the bottom of the fourth frame, Shepard reached first after being hit-by-a-pitch. He moved to second when Tompkins was also hit. A single by Ericson moved the runners up a base, allowing Pasket to drive in Shepard on a base knock to right field.

The score remained 1-1 as Centenary had a chance to break open the game, but left three on in the seventh after two walks and a single.

Hoyt relieved Tompkins in the ninth and pitched a solid inning, before giving way to teammate Robinson in the 10th, who got the final Demon batter to foul out to Ericson at first.

Centenary got things going in the latter half of the frame when Todd opened with a sharp single up the middle. With one out, Northwestern State had a chance to turn the double play after Ericson grounded to first base, but an errant throw put runners at second and third. Pasket's fly out to center field was enough to plate Todd for the win.

Demons' Dustin Northcott (0.2,1,1,0,0,0) suffered the loss after tossing 0.2 innings in relief, allowing one unearned run on one hit.

Eric DeBlanc and Baisley each had two hits for Northwestern State.

Centenary will travel to South Dakota State for a four-game Summit League set this weekend beginning on Friday at 3:00 pm.
