SHREVEPORT-The Centenary baseball team will enter The Summit League Championship in Tulsa, Okla. this week as the No. 3 seed after compiling a 17-9 league record during regular season play.

Centenary (28-24) will meet Oral Roberts on Thursday at 7:00 pm at J.L. Johnson Stadium on the campus of ORU. Live stats can be viewed at www.orugoldeneagles.com.

South Dakota State secured the top seed as the Jackrabbits claimed its first regular season title over Oral Roberts, the tournament's No. 2 seed, by virtue of winning three out of four games against the Golden Eagles during the regular season. This will be the first time since ORU joined the league in 1998 that it will not be the No. 1 seed.

Oakland claimed the No. 4 seed with a 13-14 league mark. The Golden Grizzlies captured the final spot with a four-game series sweep over Southern Utah in the final week of the regular season.

The Gents are led offensively by senior Cliff Shepard with a solid .365 average. He paces the team with 72 hits, 20 doubles and 48 RBI. Junior Keegan Acker is hitting .333 with a .464 on-base percentage and 36 walks. Senior Jeff Ericson is third-best with a .326.

Right-hander Boone Whiting is 6-1 on the season with a 3.23 ERA. The junior has struck out 112 batters in just 78.0 innings pitched to break the single-season strikeout record and career-strikeout record at Centenary.

Sophomore Seth Lugo is 2-2 with a 4.62 ERA, while junior David Benson is 4-3 with a 4.85 ERA.

The Gents have received several strong performances of late out of the pen as freshman Trey McGee picked up his first win of the season last weekend.
