IUPUI Takes Series with Two Wins Over Ladies

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana-The Centenary softball team faced a hot-hitting IUPUI team that garnered two wins over the Ladies in Summit League play on Saturday afternoon.

Centenary dropped Game 1, 20-3 and fell in Game 2, 16-1, both in five innings.

With the two losses, Centenary fell to 1-11 on the season and 1-2 in league play.

Game 1: IUPUI 20, Centenary 3 (5 innings)

Junior Leah Dark belted her first career home run to finish 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI in Game 1. Also tallying two knocks was sophomore Jenny King with a 2-for-2 effort and an RBI.

Despite giving up 20 runs and committing three errors, the Ladies registered seven hits. Also picking up a knock was freshman Nicole Warren (1x3), sophomore Bailey Boggs (1x2), junior Kalyn Harris (1x2, R) and senior Bonnie Matak (1x2).

Freshman Lynsi Unruh (2.0,7.7,7,3,2) suffered the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season. The righty allowed seven runs on seven hits and three walks in 2.0 innings of work, while fanning two.

Also seeing action out of the pen was junior Reggie Salvatore (2.0,10,13,11,3,1), who surrendered 13 runs on 10 hits and three walks in the final 2.0 innings of play.

IUPUI produced a 10-run third inning that upped its lead to 17 after having plated six in the second frame. The Jaguars boasted up for 17 hits in the game and forced the Ladies into three defensive miscues.

Game 2: IUPUI 16, Centenary 1

IUPUI's pitching staff held the Ladies to one hit in Game 2, which came off the bat of Salavtore.

Senior Lauren Highsmith (3.0,12,15,12,4,0) struggled after a solid Day 1 when she allowed 12 earned runs on 12 hits and four walks for the loss, falling to 1-8 on the year.

IUPUI gained a 4-0 lead through the first two frames, before Centenary managed to garner one when Dark led off with a hit-by-pitch, a walk and an error followed, scoring Dark.

The Jaguars connected on 13 hits to the Ladies' one.

Also seeing action in Game 2 on the mound was Unruh (1.0,1,1,0,1,2) who struck out two in 1.0 inning of work.
