Ladies Dominate in Final Regular-Season Meet at UAA with Season-Best Score

ANCHORAGE, Alaska-Competing in their final regular-season meet at the University of Alaska at Anchorage, the Centenary gymnastics team didn't let anything get in their way as they dominated with a season-best score of 192.575 for a first-place victory over the Seawolves (192.250) on Sunday afternoon.

The Ladies (5-12) picked up their fifth win of the season after rebounding from a heart-breaking loss against UAA on Friday evening. Centenary posted impressive scores in all four events and had nine Top 3 places throughout the contest.

Centenary showcased a consistent effort throughout and was highlighted by three 48+ scores on Vault, Beam and Floor. The Ladies had the upper hand heading into their final event on Beam, similar to Friday night, but today's meet ended with an effort that proved successful, as they maintained the advantage for the win.

Sophomore Jessica Lieblich received top honors as an All-Around competitor with a four-event total of 38.875. Lieblich placed first on Beam with a 9.750 and second on Floor with a 9.775, a career-best.

Junior Stephanie Wright was also successful in multiple events, tying for second on Bars with a score of 9.775 and tying for third on Beam (career-best) with senior teammate Marisa Schneider after posting a score of 9.700.

Sophomores Christy Martinez and Brittany Adams secured first and second place on Vault, respectively with scores of 9.725 and 9.700 (season-best). Junior Melody Smith earned third place honors on Floor with a 9.750, a season-best.

As a team, Centenary posted its best score on Floor with a team-total of 48.375, followed by Vault (48.225), Beam (48.200) and Bars (47.775). The Ladies score on Beam was a season-high for the team.

"This was definitely our most consistent meet of the year, but there is still room for improvements. We are looking forward to our three practices before we head back to Cape Girardeau for the Midwest Independence Conference Championship," said head coach Gretchen Goerlitz.

The Ladies will now compete in the MIC Conference Championships in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on Saturday, March 19 at 2 pm.
