PREVIEW: Softball to Host SDSU in Weekend Series

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team will look to build on its Tuesday night win as it hosts South Dakota State on Friday and Saturday in Summit League action. The Ladies are set to begin on Friday with a double-header at 4 pm, followed by a single game at Noon on Saturday.

The Ladies (2-12) recorded their second win of the season in a 7-1 victory over Grambling earlier this week. Centenary looks to improve in Summit League play as they are 1-2 after the first weekend out at IUPUI.

At the plate, the Ladies have consistently improved and are led by junior Leah Dark's .357 average. In 14 AB, Dark has recorded five hits and two RBI. Senior Bonnie Matak follows with a .324 clip and a team-best 11 hits in 34 AB. Junior Kalyn Harris paces the team with seven RBI aft a two-run homerun on Tuesday evening.

Senior Lauren Highsmith is 2-8 on the mound this season for the Ladies, after tossing a team-high 45.0 innings. The righty has made 11 starts and has a 12.00 ERA. Also seeing action is freshman Lynsi Unruh with two game starts in nine appearances with an 11.51 ERA and a 0-2 record.

A LOOK AT SDSU
South Dakota State enters the weekend series with a 2-16 overall record and will play its first league games of the season. The Jackrabbits have dropped the last five games, all of which came at No. 14 Hawaii's tournament. SDSU is led offensively Devon Reick's .404 average and a team-best 21 hits. Krista Honken leads the team with 10 RBI and is second-best with a .352 clip.

Pam Nicholson is 1-9 on the season with eight game starts and 17 appearances. She holds a team-low 6.55 ERA. Kori Seidlitz has made 10 starts in 16 appearances and has recorded a 9.33 ERA and a 1-7 record.

SERIES HISTORY
Centenary and SDSU will meet for the 10th time in the school's history. The Jackrabbits currently own a 5-4 edge over the Ladies after being they swept Centenary in Brookings, SD a year ago.

WHAT'S NEXT
Centenary will travel to ULM on Tuesday, March 22 for a 5 pm contest, before hosting Central Arkansas on Thursday, March 24 at 5 pm and Southern Utah in a three-game set next weekend.
