Gymnastics Places Fifth at MIC Championships

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Missouri-The Centenary gymnastics team was amongst a competitive field at the MIC Championships, as it finished fifth out of five teams with a team score of 189.850 on Saturday afternoon.

The Ladies finished behind conference champion, host-SEMO with a meet-best 193.775. TWU captured second with a 192.525, Illinois-Chicago took third with a 192.075 and Illinois State bested Centenary in fourth with a 191.900.

Centenary scored an event-best 48.250 on Vault, led by sophomore Christy Martinez in a tie for 14th with a 9.700.

The Ladies finished with a third-best score on Bars, scoring a 47.975 as senior Makensie Lant placed fifth with a 9.750. Also in Top 10 was junior Stephanie Wright with a 9.700.

Centenary struggled on Beam, totaling 46.150. Sophomore Jessica Lieblich tied for 17th with a 9.500 to lead the way. And rounding out the events on Floor, the Ladies scored a 47.475 as a team. Senior Marisa Schneider tied for 13th with a 9.550 to pace the squad, while sophomore Meg Crowley was close behind in a tie for 15th with a 9.525.

In the All-Around competition, Lieblich placed sixth with a four-event total of 38.050. SEMO's Christina Sundgren and TWU's Brittany Johnson scored a 38.875 to capture first place.

This concludes the Ladies scheduled meet for the 2011 season. Centenary will now prepare for Nationals held in April in Colorado Springs, CO.
