Softball Set for Busy Week; Hosts UCA and SUU

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team will continue its busy week of games when it hosts Central Arkansas on Thursday at 5 pm, followed by a Summit League series on Friday (4 pm/6 pm) and Saturday (Noon) against Southern Utah.

The Ladies (2-16, 1-5 Summit) are coming off an 8-0 loss to ULM in five innings on Tuesday and will look to return to winning ways, after having dropped the last four contests.

Offensively, Centenary is hitting .195 as a team, led by junior Leah Dark's .360 average. Senior Bonnie Matak follows with a .295 clip and a team-best 13 hits, five doubles, 21 total bases, and seven runs scored. Junior Kalyn Harris continues to pace the team with seven RBI on 10 hits.

On the mound, freshman Lynsi Unruh holds a team-low 6.71 ERA in 12 game appearances. The righty has made two starts and holds a 0-3 record through 32.1 innings pitched.

Senior Lauren Highsmith has seen the most action with 15 game starts and 58.0 innings tossed. The right-hander is 2-12 on the season and has pitched six complete games.

UCA enters Thursday's rescheduled contest with an 11-16 overall record and a 3-5 mark on the road. The Bears have dropped five of their last six contests, which all came at home. Melanie Bryant leads the Bears' offense with a .442 average, 22 RBI and six home runs. Kasey Britt follows with a .386 clip and 14 doubles.

Kelsie Armstrong has recorded a 1.86 ERA and a 7-11 record on the mound for UCA. She has tossed 120.1 innings and has struck out 102 hitters.

Southern Utah is 9-18 overall, 4-2 in Summit League play and is winless with a 0-10 record on the road. The Thunderbirds have dropped the last four contests this season. Southern Utah is led offensively by Haylee Hoch's .313 average. Cora Cordova is second-best with a .306 clip.

Heather Black is 8-7 on the mound with a team-low 4.00 ERA through 91.0 innings pitched.
