Ladies Drop Series with SUU

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team dropped its series finale, 3-0, to Southern Utah on Saturday afternoon in Summit League action.

The Ladies (2-20, 1-8) were held to just one hit on the afternoon, an infield single by freshman Nicole Warren.

Southern Utah plated one run in the second inning and maintained the early lead the entire game. The Thunderbirds garnered two more runs in the top of the seventh to go up 3-0 for the win.

Junior Kalyn Harris' belted a shot to centerfield that was robbed over the fence, keeping the Ladies scoreless. The hit would have tied the game at 1-1.

Senior Lauren Highsmith (3.1,5,1,0,3,1) got the start, but took the loss after throwing 3.1 innings and allowing one run, unearned on five hits and three walks. Highsmith fell to 2-15 on the year.

Freshman Lynsi Unruh (3.2,3,2,0,3,1) tossed the final 3.2 innings and gave up two runs, both unearned, on three hits and three walks.

Centenary had its chances in several frames, including bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but weren't able to execute down the stretch.

Southern Utah's Heather Black (7.0,1,0,0,3,8) earned her second win of the series, tossing a one-hit shutout.

The Ladies will return to action on Friday, April 1 at Oakland.
