Gents Fall in Opening Summit League Cluster

GALESBURG, Ill.-The Centenary men's tennis team opened Summit League play on Saturday and Sunday, falling to Western Illinois, 4-0 and South Dakota State, 4-1 at Lakeside Racquet Club.

The Gents fell to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in Summit League play.

Against Western Illinois, Centenary was never able to grab a set win as Jonathan Threadgill (6-2, 6-0), Micah Threadgill (6-1, 6-1), Garrett Whipple (6-0, 6-0) dropped their respective matches. Sam Grace (6-4, 2-0), Michael Reeks (1-0, uf) and Evan Magill (uf) each recorded unfinished matches.

In doubles play, the Threadgill brothers fell 8-4, while Whipple/Magill and Grace/Reeks fell 8-3 and 6-5 (uf), respectively.

Against South Dakota State, Centenary recorded one win as Grace won 6-1 and 7-6 as the Gents' No. 4 player. Despite winning his first set J. Threadgill dropped his match, 1-6, 7-6, 6-3. M. Threadgill (6-2, 6-1) and Whipple (6-4, 6-3) each fell competitively. Reeks (2-4, uf) and Magill (0-4, uf) were each up, but did not finished due to an already secured win by SDSU.

In doubles play, the Threadgills fell 8-6, while Magill/Whipple were dropped 8-2. Grace/Reeks were up 6-5, but didn't finish.

Centenary will return to Shreveport before traveling to Longview, Texas to face LeTourneau in a dual match on Saturday at 11 am.
