Gents Golf in Sixth After Opening Day of Hal Sutton Intercollegiate

BOSSIER CITY, La.-The Centenary men's golf team sits in sixth place out of eight teams after two rounds of the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate. The Gents fired a 36-hole score of 619 at the Golf Club at StoneBridge on Monday.

Centenary trimmed seven strokes off its opening round score of 313 to finish with a 306 in the afternoon round. The Gents had four players fire comparable or better rounds to conclude Day 1.

Senior Greg Berthelot's consistent play places him in a tie for fourth place overall after he fired two rounds of 73 to finish the day with a score of 146.

Following Berthelot is senior Ryan Sparks (75-73), who cut two shots off to record a 73 in the second round, finished two strokes behind his classmate with a 148 score to sit in a tie for ninth.

Senior Cannon Earp's seven-shot difference (81-74) moved him up in the standings in a tie for 19th and a score of 155. Other Gents in action were sophomore Jay Frazier (84-86, 170) in a tie for 36th and junior Kyle Mehnert (110-98, 208; 40th), who saw his action in his first collegiate tournament.  

Stephen F. Austin (292-297) continues to pace the field with a two-round total of 589, while McNeese State (304-290) moved into second with a 594 and Tyler Junior College (302-307) dropped to third with a score of 609.

Leading the way individually is SFA's No.1 player, Mitchell McElroy (71-72, 143), who's 1-under par places him two shots better the next score.

The Hal Sutton Intercollegiate will wrap up on Tuesday with a final round of 18 holes. Shot gun start is scheduled for 8:30 am.
