ALEXANDRIA, La.-The Centenary softball team took advantage of timely hitting and solid pitching to pick up an 8-3 road win in non-conference action at LSU-Alexandria on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Ladies improved to 4-22 overall and 3-10 on the road and have now won two straight.

Freshman Lynsi Unruh (4.2,6,2,1,0,3) earned her second straight win and improved to 2-5 on the year. The righty tossed 4.2 innings, allowing one earned run on six hits, while fanning three.

Senior Lauren Highsmith (2.1,1,1,1,2,2) earned her first save of the year, relieving Unruh and pitching the final 2.1 innings. The righty allowed one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

Leading the Ladies offensively was senior Bonnie Matak, who finished the game with a 3-for-4 effort, with three runs driven in and one run scored. Sophomores Jenny King (2x3, R) and Kelsey Regan (2x3, R, RBI) each had two hits, while junior Kalyn Harris (1x3, R, 2 RBI) drove in two runs on one hit.

Also contributing with a base knock was sophomore Bailey Boggs (1x3, R, RBI) and freshman Chandelle Scott (1x1, R).

It was a four-run first inning that helped lift Centenary to the win when the Ladies connected on four hits, including a two-out RBI double by Regan and a two-run home run by Harris.

Centenary managed to grab another run in the second on an RBI-single by Matak. LSU-Alexandria plated a run in the latter half of the second on a solo shot to left field to open the inning, but Unruh was able to force several groundouts to end the inning without any more damage.

The Generals managed to keep the Centenary hitters at bay through the sixth inning as they went on to make it a 5-3 game, plating runs in the fifth and sixth on two hits and two Centenary errors.

However, the Ladies were able to bounce back and scrap up three late runs in the seventh when King, Scott, and Boggs singles, following an two-run double off the bat of Matak to close out the game.

LSUA's Cortney Kennedy (7.0,10,8,7,1,5) tossed all 7.0 innings, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits, while fanning five in the loss.
