PREVIEW: Ladies to Host UMKC

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team is looking to continue its winning ways when it hosts UMKC on Saturday and Sunday in Summit League play. The Ladies are set to play a double-header, beginning at 2 pm on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday at 10 am.

The Ladies (4-22) are coming off an 8-3 win at NAIA, LSU-Alexandria on Wednesday. That win was their second-straight victory after defeating Oakland in league play, 9-2 last weekend.

Senior Bonnie Matak leads the team at the plate with a .340 average and a team-best 18 hits, six doubles and two home runs. Junior Reggie Salvatore is hitting .241, while junior Kalyn Harris owns a .232 average and a team-high 13 RBI.

Freshman Lynsi Unruh has collected back-to-back wins on the mound for the Ladies and holds a team-low 6.93 ERA in four game starts. Senior Lauren Highsmith has seen the most action with 21 starts, while holding a 10.11 ERA and a 2-16 record with one save.

UMKC enters the weekend series with a 20-12 record and a 7-5 mark in Summit League play. The Kangaroos are currently tied for third place in league standings. UMKC is coming off a series win against Western Illinois.

The Kangaroos are led at the plate this season by Anna Sokolik with a .414 average and a team-best 41 hits and six doubles. As a team, UMKC is hitting an impressive .292 with 239 team hits, 118 RBI and a .975 fielding percentage.

On the mound, UMKC is paced by Deanna Friese's 2.03 ERA, 15-6 record and 19 game starts. Through 137.2 innings pitched, Friese has recorded 149 strikeouts.

Centenary and UMKC will meet for the 25th time in the school's history. The Ladies currently own the all-time record at 18-6 over the Kangaroos. The two teams met in Kansas City, MO last season as UMKC took both games played.

Following the weekend league series, Centenary will travel to south Louisiana to take on UL-Lafayette in a single game on Wednesday at 6 pm.
