Four Ladies Advance to Finals; Centenary Team Score Not Enough

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-The Centenary gymnastics team scored a 190.475 in Session I of the USAG Collegiate Nationals, but would fall short in qualifying for team finals on Saturday, while four Ladies continue in their respective events by placing amongst the Top 5 on Friday afternoon on the campus of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

As a team, Centenary finished fourth out of the four Session I teams, which included Bridgeport (192.775), Seattle Pacific (191.050), and Temple (190.750).

Three individual events will be represented by a Centenary gymnast as well as the All-Around competition on Sunday during individual finals.

On Vault, sophomore Christy Martinez scored a 9.700 to place fourth in the preliminary competition. Bridgeport's Monica Mesalles' 9.850 led all competitors on Vault.

Also qualifying for Sunday's event on Bars is junior Stephanie Wright, who tied for third overall with a score of 9.625. Seattle Pacific's Anissa Madrid's 9.700 leads the way.

Senior Marisa Schneider scored a 9.750 and tied for fifth in the Floor exercise to continue on in the competition. Mesalles also led the way with a 9.875.

Centenary's only All-Around competitor, sophomore Jessica Lieblich, was fourth-best on Friday with a 38.225 total score in four events. Mesalles totaled 38.575 for a top finish.

Competing in Session II on Friday was TWU, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, and Air Force. The top two teams of this session will also advance to join Bridgeport and Seattle Pacific in the team finals.

Individual finals for the four Centenary Ladies will begin at 3 pm CT.
