Gym Talk: Sophomores
Tuesday, April 12, 2011
Hey everyone, it's the sophomores here! This past week has been jam packed with excitement. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday we had our last practices before we left for Nationals. They were quick and efficient focusing on the hits. Tuesday was a bittersweet practice because it was the seniors last practice at Jill's. Wednesday came and we were off to Colorado Springs for USAG Nationals. Before we left for the airport all of our close fans at the school had a send off party for us. They made signs and gave us snack bags for our trip. It was quite the exciting trip! We almost missed our connecting flight, but luckily all our sprint training came in handy!

Thursday morning we had the Championship Brunch. The whole team got dressed up in their finest. It took place in the Falcon Stadium Press Box. We were able to see out over the football stadium and had a scenic view of the mountains. We made sure to take lots of pictures! After the banquet we took a quick trip to the Garden of the Gods. We climbed all over the rocks, taking lots of pictures, and it was tons of fun! Like the typical Ladies we rolled up fashionably late to the practice day. We followed our team motto of "do you" and had a focused and efficient practice!

Friday was meet day! It was a new experience for us since last year we unfortunately did not qualify as team. We got to experience the fun, excitement, and adrenaline of competing in Nationals. There was some great gymnastics performed by all on our team that day, however we did not qualify to the second day. Though this was disappointing we have lots of motivation to keep working hard and improve over the summer. Our own Christy Martinez a.k.a. Chimmychanga qualified to individual event finals on vault along with Jessica Lieblich as an all-arounder. Jessica was named All-American for placing in the all around. Marisa Schneider qualified on floor and Stephanie Wright qualified on bars.

We spent Saturday sightseeing and we went to watch team finals that night. It was an exciting competition and you'll definitely see the Ladies there next year! Sunday was event finals. There was some spectacular gymnastics and all three of our event finalists were named All-Americans!

Overall our season has had its up and downs, but we learned a lot! We look forward to coming back next year with new and improved routines. Next time you hear from us we'll be Uppers!!!!!

Much Love from the almost Junies!
