Gents Golf in Fourth After Opening Round

LONGVIEW, Texas-The Centenary men's golf team totaled 311 in the opening round of the LeTourneau Spring Classic on Monday to sit in fourth place overall at Pinecrest Country Club.

The Gents are one shot out of the Top 3 and eight shots behind tournament leader and host, LeTourneau (302). Schreiner University is in second with a 307, followed by Mississippi College in third with a 310.

Leading the way after one round for the Gents is senior Greg Berthelot who fired a team-best 75 to sit in a tie for fourth heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Senior Cannon Earp shot a 76 and is one shot behind Berthelot and is tied for 8th. Classmate Ryan Sparks sits in a tie for 10th after tallying a 77. Sophomore Jay Frazier (83) is tied for 30th, while junior Kyle Mehnert (96) is in 38th.

Individually, LeTourneau's Jacob Clay and Schreiner's Jay Chapman share the lead with a 73.

The tournament will conclude with one round on Tuesday.
