PREVIEW: Ladies Host IPFW in Final Home Series; Honor Seniors Saturday

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team will play its final home series of the 2011 season this weekend when it hosts IPFW at the Centenary Softball Complex. The Ladies are set for a double-header on Friday, beginning at 4 pm, followed by a single game at Noon on Saturday.

The Ladies are 4-26 overall and 2-13 in league play heading into the weekend series. Centenary is looking to snap a four-game skid.

Centenary is coming off a tough weekend series with UMKC as the Ladies fell in all three games at home. Senior Bonnie Matak paces the offense with a team-leading .313 average, 20 hits, six doubles and three home runs. Performing well off the bench of late has been freshman Chandelle Scott with a .250 average. Junior Kalyn Harris is third-best on the team with a .225 average and leads the team with 13 RBI.

On the mound, freshman Lynsi Unruh (6.12, 2-6) and senior Lauren Highsmith (10.76, 2-19, 1 SV) each have two wins this season. Highsmith paces the duo with 24 game starts and 92.0 innings pitched.

Seniors Lauren Highsmith and Bonnie Matak will be honored pregame on Saturday.

A LOOK AT IPFW
IPFW was selected as the Summit League Preseason favorite and enters the weekend with a 20-10-1 record and a 10-5 mark in league play. The Mastodons have won their last 10 of 12 games, including 2-of-3 from Western Illinois last weekend.

IPFW is led at the plate by Sarah Swanson with a .380 average. Ashley Bousquet follows with a .351 clip. On the mound, All-Region performer a year ago, Courtney Cronin is 13-7 with a team-low ERA of 2.05 through 20 game starts.

SERIES HISTORY
Centenary and IPFW will meet for the 10th time as the Mastodons own a 6-3 mark over the Ladies. The two met in a three-game series a year ago in Fort Wayne, Ind. as the Mastodons defeated the Ladies in all three.

Centenary will travel to Central Arkansas for a mid-week contest on Wednesday, April 20 at 6 pm.
