Gents Golf Season Ends with 10th Place Finish at League Championships

PRIMM, Nevada-The Centenary men's golf team produced its best round of The Summit League Championship on Tuesday, but would wrap up the 2011 season with a 10th place finish and a three-round total of 946 at Primm Valley Golf Club.

The Gents fired an impressive final round of 299 as two Centenary seniors finished their careers under par for the day. Senior Cannon Earp shot a career-low 68 to pace the Gents on Tuesday, while classmate Greg Berthelot stayed consistent with a 71.

Berthelot (77-74-71) finished with Centenary's best outing, tying for 17 overall with a 54-hole total of 222. Earp (85-79-68) tallied 232 to finish 10 shots behind Berthelot and in 37th place, trimming 17 strokes off his opening round total.

Senior Ryan Sparks (84-77-82) placed 47th after totaling 243, while sophomore Jay Frazier (86-85-78, 249) placed 48th and junior Kyle Mehnert (107-90-92, 289) took 49th overall.

UMKC (303-280-277) captured the Summit League Championship, firing a 4-under 860 through three rounds. Southern Utah (296-295-279) and IUPUI (297-292-281) each totaled 870 to tie for second.

IUPUI's Michael Powell (72-69-67, 208) finished 8-under par, earning individual champion honors.

Rounding out the league standings were IPFW, Oral Roberts, and Western Illinois in fourth through sixth, while South Dakota State, Oakland and North Dakota State finished seventh through ninth ahead of Centenary.
