Ladies Swept at Western Illinois

MACOMB, Ill.-The Centenary softball team committed four errors and allowed 13 hits in the series finale at Western Illinois, falling 12-3 in five innings on Saturday afternoon.

The Ladies fell to 4-32 overall and 2-19 in league play after being swept by the Leathernecks.

Centenary's middle-of-the-order provided the team with its four hits on the afternoon as senior Bonnie Matak (1x2, R), junior Reggie Salvatore (1x2, R), sophomore Kelsey Regan (1x2, R, RBI) and junior Kalyn Harris (1x1, 2 RBI) each had a hit for the Ladies.

Western Illinois went up 3-0 in the first before Centenary plated its first run in the top of the second when Regan belted her third home run of the season to left center.

After the Leathernecks added another run, Centenary responded with two in the fourth when Harris' two-run single down the left field line plated Salvatore and Matak who each reached on hits.

As it began making a comeback, the Ladies fell victim to an offensively strong effort by Western Illinois in the fourth when it plated seven runs on six hits to 12-3 lead for the win.

Senior Lauren Highsmith (3.2,13,12,11,2,1) pitched 3.2 innings, allowing 11 earned runs on 13 hits and two walks for the loss. The righty fell to 2-24 on the year.

Freshman Lynsi Unruh (0.1,0,0,0,0,0) pitched the final out of the contest.

Centenary will return home to host LSU-Alexandria on Friday at 5 pm.
