Talamantes Named LSWA Hitter of the Week

NATCHITOCHES, La.-R.J. Talamantes of the Centenary baseball team was named this week's Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Baseball Hitter of the Week, announced Monday afternoon.

Talamantes, a freshman from Colleyville, Texas, hit .500 (10-for-20) for the week after he notched three multi-hit games to help lead the Gents to a 3-1 series win over IPFW. 

He tallied four hits in game one of an 18-8, seven-inning contest and three hits in each of the second (8-4 win) and fourth games (10-9 victory).  He had the game-winning hit in the series finale on a two-out, bases loaded double. 

The third basemen also finished the series with seven RBIs, including a career-high of four on Sunday, and was a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases.

Talamantes is second-best on the team this season with a .324 average. His 26 runs scored 34 hits and 21 stolen bases all lead the Gents through the first 28 games.

Talamantes is the first recognized LSWA Player of the Week this season for the Gents.

Centenary will return to action this weekend at North Dakota State.
