SHREVEPORT-The Centenary baseball team is looking to build on its successful weekend at home against IPFW, when it travels to Fargo, ND to take on North Dakota State in a four game Summit League set beginning Friday.

The Gents are slated to play at 2 pm on Friday, a double-header on Saturday, beginning at 1 pm and a single game on Sunday at Noon. Game times may be altered due to weather conditions. Stay tuned for updates.

Centenary (6-22, 3-9 Summit) is coming off its best weekend of the year when it took 3-of-4 from league foe, IPFW at Shehee Stadium. The Gents escaped the weekend split with a come-from-behind win, 10-9 in the series finale on a walk-off double by LSWA's Hitter of the Week, freshman RJ Talamantes.

The freshmen class for the Gents is doing their part as four newcomers pace the squad in batting average, led by Mark Gillean's .390 clip. Talamantes is second-best with a .324 average, a team-best 26 runs scored, 34 hits and a league-best 21 stolen bases. He is followed by Marc Martinez' .318 average and Pete Rajkovich's .299 average.

Juniors Jeff Schaffert (.292) and Kyle Morton (.247) each lead the team with 15 RBI and the duo has combined for seven of Centenary's nine home runs.

Centenary's pitching staff holds a team ERA of 7.24 as starters freshman Nic Parrott (1-1, 4.63), senior Derek Dalzell (1-4, 1 SV, 6.37), and junior Seth Lugo (2-5, 6.70) each started a game for the second straight Summit League weekend. Freshman Ryan Maldonado (1-0, 6.52) picked up his first win of his collegiate career in relief, while sophomore Kelby Langston (0-2, 3.75) holds the team's lowest ERA with 11 appearances, all out of the pen.

North Dakota State enters the weekend series, having split its series with Oral Roberts last weekend and defeating non-conference opponent, Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday evening. The Bison have an overall record of 12-20 and 8-4 in league play. Zach Wentz leads the team with a .331 average and 15 RBI, while four other Bison record averages of .300 or better.

On the bump for NDSU, Colby Tognetti (2-3, 3.15), Mark Hermes (2-6, 4.71), Luke Anderson (2-1, 5.67) and Zach Wentz (1-5, 7.30) have each pitched considerable time as Bison starters.

Centenary and NDSU have met 15 times before the slated weekend contests. The Gents hold an impressive 13-2 mark over the Bison since they first met. Centenary earned a series sweep at home last season over NDSU. Seth Lugo picked up the Game 4 win last year, defeating Zach Wentz of NDSU.
