Talamantes, Rajkovich Named to Summit League Baseball Post-Season Teams

ELMHURST, Ill.-Centenary baseball freshman RJ Talamantes was named First Team All-Summit League, while classmate Pete Rajkovich was honored as a Second Team All-Summit League selection, voted on by the League's head coaches, announced Wednesday evening.

These two freshmen highlighted the Gents final season in The Summit League, posting impressive numbers in their debut seasons.

Talamantes was named First Team All-Summit League at third base. The Colleyville, Texas native played in all 43 games this season, making 42 starts. He finished third-best on the team with a .350 average and second-best in Summit League play alone with a .404 clip.

He led the team with 160 at-bats, 38 runs scored, 56 hits, 38 runs scored and a .426 on base percentage. Talamantes led the league in stolen bases all season long with a remarkable 32 bag swipes in 37 attempts. 23 of his stolen bases came in league play alone.

For his efforts on the base paths, Talamantes finished the season ranked fifth in the nation in stolen bases per game (0.74) and total stolen bases (32) in NCAA Division I.

Talamantes ended the season on a 16-game streak of reaching base safely and notched a season-best five game hit streak. He tallied 16 multi-hit games, including three four-hit games.

Rajkovich was named Second Team All-Summit League in the outfield. A converted outfielder once league play began, Rajkovich took hold of the opportunity and soared. The Linden, California native started and played in 40 games for the Gents.

He led the team in average with an astounding .363 clip and a .419 mark in Summit League play. Rajkovich was second-best on the team with 45 hits, fourth-best with 18 RBI. He slugged .488 in conference play.

Rajkovich had 16 multi-hit games and had four three-hit games. He led the team with a season-long 10-game hitting streak and reached base safely 15 straight games.

Centenary wrapped up the 2011 season and final season of NCAA Division I and The Summit League under first-year head coach Mike Diaz with a record of 12-31 and 9-18 in Summit League play.

Southern Utah's Bo Cuthbertson was named Summit League Player of the Year, while Oral Roberts' Alex Gonzalez was tabbed as Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year. Oral Roberts' head coach Rob Walton was honored as Coach of the Year.
