Former Gents Golfer, Berthelot, Wins LGA Amateur Championship

LAFAYETTE, La.—Former Gents golfer and 2011 graduate of Centenary, Greg Berthelot, shot a four-round total of 276 to finish 12-under to win the 2011 Louisiana Golf Association Amateur Championship at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La. last week.

The Baton Rouge native, fired a bogey-free final round of 68 to win by two shots over fellow hometown native Brent Struthers.

Berthelot shot rounds of 69, 65, 74, and 68, finishing with an impressive two eagles and 18 birdies to accompany his 42 pars.

The former Gent excelled as Centenary’s No. 1 player for his four-year career, earning First Team All-Summit League honors and Second Team All-Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) honors his senior season. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting a month ago.

As a senior, Berthelot ranked eighth in Summit League standings with a team-low 74.04 stroke average through 25 rounds this season. The highlight of the year came when he captured first place in Centenary's Hal Sutton Intercollegiate after firing a final round of 67 to finish 3-under par for the tournament.
