ELMHURST, Ill.-In the final year of The Summit League, the Centenary men's swimming team placed 11 members of its squad on the 2010-11 Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence awarding them the League's Team Academic Achievement Award for men's swimming.

Team Academic Achievement Awards in each sport are based on percentage of list-eligible student-athletes on the Commissioner's List. With 48 percent of its squad named to the list, the Centenary men's swimming program has built an academically-sound team under veteran

"The coaches are very proud of our student-athletes.  It takes a lot of discipline to train twice a day, travel for competitions and excel in the classroom.  Not only that but contribute to the school in other ways by being involved in other organizations and be supportive at other athletic events on campus," said head coach Butch Jordan.

"We have always tried to recruit athletes that are not only good swimmers and students, but take the time to be good Centenary citizens as well." "The team captains are great at encouraging our swimmers to support other sports and become involved in the student life at Centenary. We have been lucky in the early years of the swim program to have some great team leaders that got the program on the right track," said Jordan.

In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, he/she must carry a 3.00 or better cumulative GPA, achieve sophomore academic standing at the institution, have used a year of eligibility and be on the squad list in the sport in which he/she is nominated. Transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates must have completed one academic year at the nominating institution. True freshmen, redshirt freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.

The men's soccer program joins the men's swimming program as the only two sports honored with Team Academic Achievement Awards. These two programs helped Centenary to the league's Institutional Academic Achievement Award.
