FEATURE: Former Ladies Gymnast Kathy Johnson Reflects on Olympic Experience

Gymnast Kathy Johnson left Centenary with a remarkable resume of accomplishments to continue her career at the international level.

A member of the Ladies squad from 1977-79, Johnson was a two-time All-American and helped Centenary to American Cup honors in '77 and a US Gymnastics Federation Championship. Also during her short stint, she was a part of a squad that captured back-to-back AIAW National Championships.

For her efforts, Johnson was named to the 1980 Olympic team, but due to the US Boycotts at the Moscow Games, she didn't compete until 1984 in Los Angeles.

She was a member of the Silver medal team and won bronze on the balance beam.

Johnson reflecting on the Olympic experience in 1980: "At the time, I was just still happy to be going to the Olympic Trials. To be honest it probably extended my career another four years."

30 years later, USAG reflects on her and the USA team's experiences during that time. For the complete, release CLICK HERE.
