Boone Whiting Named Cardinal Nation Pitcher of the Month

The race for The Cardinal Nation's August Minor League Pitcher of the Month was a tough one. There were plenty of strong performances on each of the St. Louis Cardinals' affiliates, but one pitcher stood out thanks in part to unparalleled command.

In 22 2/3 innings, Johnson City's Boone Whiting struck out 30 batters while walking only one. Yes, that's right. Whiting gave away only one free pass. The 18th round selection in this past June's draft allowed just one earned run this past month resulting in an ERA of 0.40.

The right-hander has given up only 17 hits in resulting in a batting average against of .200.

For the season, Whiting has a record of 5-3 with a 3.50 ERA. In 54 innings, he has 68 strikeouts while walking only five.
