Ladies Opening Game Ends in Double-Overtime Fall
Saturday, September 4, 2010
MONROE, La.-Despite having an early lead, the Centenary women's soccer team battled all the way through a double-overtime, 3-2, loss at Louisiana-Monroe on Friday afternoon in its season opener.

The Ladies (0-1-0) were held to just two shots all afternoon, but those two resulted in goals for Centenary. Junior Candace Rushing gave the Ladies a 1-0 advantage on a shot from sophomore Holden Penney that found the back of the net at the 52-minute mark.

Louisiana-Monroe responded with a goal of its own less than a minute later by Samantha Cashman.

Penney would then contribute to the score when she executed her first career goal shortly after, putting Centenary back on top, 2-1. However, a late Warhawk goal at 82:04 by Kelly Riley sent the game into overtime.

A goal by ULM's Tiffany Bombard at the 102-mark secured the victory for the home team.

Centenary was outshot, 26-2 on the game, but goal keepers, Haleigh Coffey and Kalyn Harris posted seven saves to keep the game within reach for the Ladies.

Centenary will return home for a home-opening game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm on Mayo Field.
