Cross Country Competes in Lumberjack Opener

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-The Centenary cross country teams took part in the 2010 Lumberjack Opener hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University on Friday evening.

An uncharacteristic meet, the Ladies and Gents designated pairs and raced a relay-type race. The women's race consisted on an 8,000 meter relay, where each athlete ran two-2,000 meter loops.

The duo of Mellynn Baker and Jacquelyn Batson finished in seventh to lead Centenary with a time of 36:15.8. Following was the team of Bonnie Cook and Kelsey Regan with an eighth-place finish and a 39:20.0 time.

Leading the way on the women's side was Stephanie Ganter and Lauren Smith, who raced as an unattached duo. The team's time topped all pairs in 29:52.2.

The men's race was a 12,000 meter run, where each athlete ran three-2,000 meter loops.

Centenary ran three groups, led by duo Robert Poole and Miles McDonald in eighth with a finish of 41:08.6. David Micinski and Sam Fell followed in ninth place and with a time of 43:06.2, while Jonathan Martin competed alone and took 10th in 44:32.8.

To pace the group in 39:18.1 was Ryan Tilotta and Harmon McClanahan, who raced unattached to a university.

Centenary will return to the courses on Sept. 18 at Louisiana Tech.
