"Front & Center" w/ Candace Rushing

Coming off of a solid 4-0 win at LeTourneau University last weekend, we felt confident in our team's ability to compete and were ready for more action. With a good University of Louisiana at Monroe squad just one week away from our first game, we worked hard in preparation and focused at practice in order to tackle our next challenge.

Monroe has always been a tough team to play. Centenary began playing ULM in 2003 under head coach Jed Jones. In '03 the Ladies tied the Warhawks 2-2. Since then, Monroe has outplayed Centenary, beating us in every competition with not a lot of difficulty. This season however, was a little different.

Unfortunately, ULM proved themselves again and walked off of their home field with a 3-2 win Friday night. However, Centenary gave Monroe one of the best challenges since the college began playing them in 2003. Scoring first and holding a lead for over thirty minutes just was not enough to beat the Warhawks. After two 45 minute halves, a 10 minute overtime, and the beginning of a second overtime, Monroe scored a golden goal to edge us 3-2.

Although Monroe gave us our first loss of the season, we walked off of their field with our heads held high. Centenary, a soon to be DIII institution, played very well against a competitive DI school. Head coach for the Warhawks, Stacy Lamb, a dear friend of our head coach Glenn Evans, paid us one of the highest compliments a coach can give another. Lamb, along with her assistant Aaron Cline, commented on our work ethic saying to Evans that he has a great, hard working, never give up team. Lamb made sure Evans knew that a couple of breaks here and there would have turned the game around.

Playing well against Monroe was a challenge for us that we took on with pride. We worked hard and proved ourselves, laying our bodies on the line and making sacrifices for our team. Unfortunately, however a couple of knocks here and there and two of our starters, Laura Immenschuh and Holden Penney were out for our Sunday game. With Immenschuh's ankle injury and Penney's concussion, we went into the Pine Bluff game with a weight on our shoulders.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff came out to Mayo Field on Sunday the 5th ready to play. With 5 players rostered at 5'10" and 1 player tallied at 6'1", the Golden Lions soared over us with our tallest at 5'8". Pine Bluff played a solid game, finishing a high percentage of their on frame shots in the back of the net. Although their skill was not of a high quality, the Golden Ladies found a way to beat us. With athleticism, a full roster, and communication, Pine Bluff got the job done and rode home with a win.

With a game just two days away from Pine Bluff, our job now is to rest and prepare our bodies for another battle. Tuesday, the 7th, we will travel to Pineville to take on Louisiana College at 5:00 pm. Friday, the 10th, we will be back on Mayo Field under the lights for a 7:00 pm kick off. Also Tuesday, the 14th we will travel down Youree Drive to compete against The University of Louisiana at Shreveport. We hope to see you Friday night at Mayo and on Tuesday at LSUS for a 4:00 pm start.
