PREVIEW: Volleyball Set for Busy Weekend

SHREVEPORT-Coming off its third win of the season, the Centenary volleyball team will look to improve it short-season record when it faces four different opponents over the weekend, beginning with its home Summit League opener against Western Illinois on Friday at 7 pm in the Fitness Center.

The Ladies (3-2) will host the Fighting Leathernecks, before traveling to the Lady Techster Invitational hosted by Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Centenary will meet Southeastern Louisiana at 12 pm and Louisiana Tech, shortly following at 2 pm.

After the short trip down I-20, Centenary will return home on Sunday to play host to league foe, IUPUI at 1 pm in the Fitness Center.

Both home matches will be held across Kings Hwy. in Haynes Fitness Center due to the Annual Book Bazaar in the Gold Dome.

Centenary is led in kills by Stevie Hulbirt with 65 and Shelby Singleton with 53. Beth Nuttall adds 109 assists to the mix and defensively Jaclyn Lopez paces the squad with 64 digs.

Western Illinois comes to Centenary after defeating Louisiana-rival, McNeese State, 3-2, on Sunday. The Fighting Leathernecks are 2-4 on the season with their other win coming against USC Upstate.

Krissy Bergquist leads the attack offense with 69 total kills, while Heather Smith contributes with 204 assists. On the defensive end, Ellen Miller leads the team with 78 digs.

IUPUI is 1-8 overall with its only win coming against Depaul, 3-1, on Sept. 4.

The Jaguars are led offensively by Lindsey Webber with 90 kills and Alexis Meeks with 294 assists. Shari Bernhardt has impressive defensive numbers with 185 digs to lead the team.
