Volleyball Falls Short in Non-Conference Action

RUSTON, La.-Facing non-conference, in-state rivals, Southeastern La. and Louisiana Tech, the Centenary volleyball team struggled to produce a consistent offense, falling in three sets in both contests on Saturday afternoon at the Lady Techster Invitational.

The Ladies (3-5) dropped a 3-0 match to the Lions, 25-15, 25-18, 25-10 to open the tournament.

Southeastern La. put up 39 kills to Centenary's 19. Sophomore Shelby Singleton and junior Stevie Hulbirt each had six kills, while junior Jaclyn Lopez had five.

Junior setter Caitlin Neese contributed with 10 assists. On the defensive end, Lopez tallied 10 digs, while freshman Bethany Nuttall and Hurlbirt had eight.

Against Louisiana Tech, Centenary was outplayed, 25-17, 25-15, 25-10. It suffered a tough time on the offensive end, with 24 kills to the Lady Techsters' 39. Singleton had eight kills and Hulbirt had seven.

Neese had 11 of the Ladies' 20 assists. Lopez dug 11 on the defensive side.

Centenary will return home to host IUPUI on Sunday at 1 pm in the Fitness Center in Summit League play.
