Gents Compete at High Level Against Stanford

BATON ROUGE, La.-To prepare for its strong competitive 2010-11 schedule, the Centenary men's swimming team took on Stanford held in Baton Rouge.

The Gents competed against the Cardinal in eight events and placed six top three finishers on the day.

Leading off the day's events in third was the 200 yard medley "A" relay team featuring Peter Henry, John Cefalu, Devin Ross and Caleb McSorley with a finishing time of 1:35.11.

McSorley captured third in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.35, while Ross finished second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 50.71.

Centenary placed second, third, and fourth in the 100 yard freestyle for the best event of the day, as Josh Pena took second in 49.10, Henry took third in 50.17 and Chris Prater took fourth in 50.53.

The 200 yard freestyle "A" relay team of Henry, Anthony LeBlanc, Austin Butler, and Ross crossed in 1:27.29, three-seconds better than Stanford to finished second.

Ross Olivier placed first in the 100 yard backstroke event in 55.43. Ryne Smith won the 100 yard breaststroke with a finishing time of 1:02.98 and the 400 yard freestyle "A" relay team of Butler, McSorley, Olivier and Pena took top honors in 3:21.01.

Centenary will be back in action on Sept. 25 at its annual Intrasquad scrimmage in Haynes Fitness Center beginning at 2 pm.
