Seniors Pace Team, Gents Golf in Fourth After Day 1

CLEVELAND, Miss.-Seniors Greg Berthelot and Ryan Sparks paced the Centenary men's golf team with under par performances on Day 1 at the Derrall Foreman Invitational hosted by Delta State University on Friday afternoon as the Gents finish the opening round in fourth place with a team total of 293. Berthelot leads the squad in a tie for sixth with a two-under 70 in the first round, while Sparks is tied for 11th with a one-under 71.

Junior Cannon Earp fired a 75 and is tied for 33rd for third-best on the team. Also rounding out the scores for Centenary are sophomore Jay Frazier with a 77 (T-40th) and freshman Brandon Sledge shooting 79 (T-52nd).

As a team, the Gents are one stroke better than Lambuth University with a total of 294. Leading the tournament is last year's champion, North Alabama's A squad with a 277, followed by the B squad with a 282 and Delta State with a 289.

Individually, Jake Greer of UNA fired a round-low 66 to top the leader board.

Centenary will wrap up the final round on Saturday with a shotgun start at 8 am.
