Gents Swimming Picked Second in Preseason Summit League Polls, Ladies Selected to Finish Third
Friday, October 1, 2010

ELMHURST, Ill.-The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams were recognized among the League's head coaches this week as the Gents were tabbed to finish second and the Ladies were selected to finish third in The Summit League's preseason voting.

The Gents received 29 total votes and one first-place nod in the voting. Reigning Men's Coach of the Year Butch Jordan and team look to return 10 of their 11 All-League selections from a year ago in Peter Henry, Caleb McSorley, Devin Ross, Ryne Smith, Adam Pennington, Josh Scott, Anthony LeBlanc, Josh Pena, Matthew Pittman and Ross Olivier.

Centenary placed second at last year's Summit League Championships and has competed competitively without a diving team since their inception into the league.

"Last year, we had to win the last event of the meet for us to move back into 2nd so it was very close.  Our guys are looking forward to February already.  I can't control what other teams do but I know that our guys are going to be ready," said Jordan.

"Realistically, we know we don't have a shot at the championship so if we can get 2nd in our last year of The Summit League it will be mission accomplished."

The Ladies received 23 points and are led by All-League returnees Laura Huning and Hayley Schneider. Centenary was selected third after wrapping up last year in a fourth-place finish.

"Getting into the top 3 for our women has proved to be very tough.  We had a real chance last year but let a few opportunities slip through.  I think we have that potential.  We will have to be ready to race in every event," said Jordan.

"We fully expect Oakland to be way in front as in years past but the 2nd through 7th place is up for grabs."
