Oakland Nets Five in Win Over Ladies

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's soccer team had a tough test on Sunday afternoon as Oakland netted five goals for a 5-0 win over the Ladies in Summit League action on Mayo Field.

The Ladies (3-9, 0-3 Summit) were held to just five shots, none of which landed on goal, while the Golden Grizzlies (7-4-2, 3-0-1 Summit) countered with an impressive 36 shots, 20 on goal.

Junior Candace Rushing and sophomore Traci Lee each fired off two shots, while sophomore Holden Penney had one.

Oakland's Dani Haelewyn would score back-to-back goals to put the Golden Grizzlies up 2-0 with 15 minutes left in the opening half. At the 42-minute mark, Oakland would add another to its early lead off the foot of Marlen Knoph.

Up 3-0, the Golden Grizzlies would continue its offensive dominance over Centenary with two early second-half goals, first by Sarah Lynch and second by Nicole DeLuca.

Centenary's junior goal keeper Kalyn Harris played 51 minutes in goal, making 10 saves, but allowing all five. Freshman teammate Haleigh Coffey would remain in goal the remainder of the contest, tallying five saves.

Centenary will return to action when it travels to IUPUI on Friday, Oct. 15 for a 7 pm kick off in Indianapolis, Ind.
