Volleyball Falls 3-0 at Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La.-The Centenary volleyball team battled in-state rival, Northwestern State, in three sets, but would fall in 3-0 on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

The Ladies dropped to 3-15 on the season with the loss, while the Demons improved to 11-11. Centenary would suffer a set one loss of 25-17, set two loss 25-19 and set three loss 25-18.

Centenary showed improvement throughout, but was held to a team .061 attack percentage over the course of the match.

Senior Bethany Kern notched eight kills to lead the Ladies offensively, while junior Stevie Kaye added seven. Junior setter Caitlin Neese tallied 20 assists.

Defensively, junior Kayla Tibaldo recorded a season-best 10 digs, while Kaye and Kern each had nine.

In set one, Centenary went up 7-2 after an early 5-0 run, but Northwestern State managed to fight back and tie the score at 8-8 on a service ace. The teams recorded three ties until the Demons took over the lead at 15-14 and held on for the remainder of the set.

Centenary again took the early lead in set two after kills by sophomore Shelby Singleton, Kern and junior Jaclyn Lopez, but the Demons would respond and take advantage of several late Ladies errors to go up by seven, 24-17 late.

The final set was controlled by Northwestern as the Demons went up 8-1 after three consecutive attacking errors by Centenary. Kills by Kaye, Kern and Lopez would provide the Ladies with some spark midway through the set to make it a seven point game at 17-10. Northwestern State would use 16 kills in the set to close out their early lead for the match sweep.

Centenary will return home to host IPFW on Friday at 7 pm and Oakland on Saturday at 7 pm in the Gold Dome.
