Thursday, October 21, 2010
SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's soccer team will honor its four seniors on Friday at halftime when the Ladies play to host to UMKC at 7 pm on Mayo Field. Centenary will then follow with a Noon-contest on Sunday against Southern Utah to wrap up its 2010 home schedule.

The Ladies enter the weekend contests with a 3-11 overall record and a 0-5 mark against league foes. Centenary is looking to snap a seven game skid, which included all five Summit League falls.

Centenary will celebrate the careers of seniors Catie Depew, Emily McManus, Kortney Causey and Erika Rautio during a halftime ceremony on Friday against the Kangaroos.

Depew, a native of Katy, Texas plays defense for Centenary and has been a four-year starter at that position.

"Catie is Miss Consistency. She is one of the best defensive players to ever step on the field for Centenary and she saves us time and time again," said Evans.

McManus, a native of Lafayette, La. also plays defense for the Ladies and has earned four letters for Centenary.

"Emily works very hard. She always is wanting to do more to become a better player and I admire that as a coach," said Evans.

Causey, a native of Wylie, Texas plays outside midfield and has been a part of the team for five years after earning a medical redshirt one season.

"Kortney has great speed and is always an offensive threat coming from the wing position," said Evans.

Rautio, a native of Grapevine, plays midfield and came to Centenary after transferring from in-state rival, Louisiana Tech last year.

"Erika is a great addition to the program as a transfer.  She is considered our midfield "enforcer" and does a great job reading the game," said Evans.

Continuing to pace the offense all season long has been Causey (3 goals, 1 assist) and junior Candace Rushing (2 goals, 3 assists) with seven points each, while sophomore Kelly Fossard adds five points to the mix on two goals and one assist.

Defensively, Centenary has relied on McManus, Depew and junior Eren Corapcioglu in the back, while junior keeper Kalyn Harris has seen 1,045 minutes in goal, making 78 saves in 14 games played.

UMKC finds itself looking to snap a nine-game winless skid and improve its 1-12-1 overall record and 0-4-1 mark in league play. The Kangaroos have only notched eight goals all season, led by Taylor Bare with three goals and two assists for eight points. Jami Finnell has seen every minute in goal this season, tallying 102 saves.

Southern Utah will meet Oral Roberts prior to Sunday's matchup with Centenary, but currently own a 4-8-1 record and a 1-4 league record, having notched a 2-0 win over UMKC earlier this month.

The Thunderbirds have played their opponents close, recording 22 goals, led by Riley Bassett with seven for 14 points. Keeper Charly Booth has made 77 saves in goal and has played every minute of every contest this season.

Following the weekend contests, Centenary will travel to North and South Dakota State for its final two games of the season.
