Gents Soccer Drops 3-0 Contest at League-Leader IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-The Centenary men's soccer team was presented a tough test as they faced Summit League leader-IUPUI on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0.

The Gents dropped to 1-6-2 overall and to 0-2-2 in league action.

Centenary saw itself battling the top-seeded Jaguars to a 0-0 draw until IUPUI broke the game open on a successful shot off the foot of Ryan Robinson at the 42-minute mark.

Up 1-0 and four minutes into the second half, IUPUI would score again on a header shot from Brock Brungard that reached just inside the right post. They managed to hold the Centenary offense scoreless through 90 minutes as they posted one final goal with 15 minutes to play by Joshio Sandoval to go up 3-0.

Centenary fired off 10 shots, however, only two landed on goal. Senior scoring leader Heath Cox made two attempts, one that was saved in goal, while junior Ben Barcelona fired off four shots.

Also contributing to the 10 shots was junior RB Asenime with a shot on goal and seniors Dragan Hinic, Ryan Watson, and Brian Hurlburt with one attempt.

IUPUI had the advantage on the offensive end with 24 shots, 11 landing on goal. The Jaguars were led by Brungard with four shots, two on goal, one goal and one assist.

Centenary senior keeper Rennie Walker got the start, playing 75 minutes, making six saves, but would suffer the loss. Gents sophomore Robbie Ramirez played the final 15 minutes, making two saves.

IUPUI counterpart Alex Mannen saw all 90 minutes in goal, tallying two saves.

Both the Jaguars and Gents each had four corner kicks.

Centenary will return home to host IPFW on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 7 pm on Mayo Field for the final home game of the season.
