Swimming Captures Multiple Top Honors in First Home Meet

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary swimming teams continued to show well in their home-opening meet on Saturday afternoon in the Fitness Center as the Ladies and Gents captured wins over Hendrix and Austin College, while UALR edged the Ladies in the final relay to earn the win.

On the men's side, Centenary recorded 139 points to Austin College's 51 and to Hendrix's 43. The Gents managed to earn first and second place in every event including a sweep of the two relay races by all three Centenary squads.

Adam Pennington earned a first place finish in the 200 yard IM (2:06.94) and a second place finish in the 100 yard free (51.00) for two top-three nods.

Behind Pennington in the 200 yard IM was Michael Schwandt (2:08.39) in second, while Ben Donaldson won the 100 yard free (49.58), edging teammate Pennington.

Austin Butler took top honors in the 1000 yard free (10:29.45), followed by Cole Lansden (11:14.58) in second. The 200 yard free was won by Josh Pena (1:48.41), while Chris Sullivan (1:55.49) finished second.

Ross Olivier (21.82) won the 50 yard free and Caleb McSorley (21.99) took second. John Cefalu (52.59) earned top honors in the 100 yard butterfly and teammate Matt Harris (55.55) finished right behind.

In the 100 yard back, Ryne Smith (56.94) placed first, while Mark Bassett (58.48) placed second. Rounding out individual honors was Anthony LeBlanc (5:10.99) and Aaron Otto (5:18.25) finished first and second in the 500 yard free, respectively, while Devon Ross (1:04.02) and Peter Henry (1:04.32) earned top honors and runner up in the 100 yard breast.

In relay action, the Gents "B" 200 yard freestyle team of McSorley, LeBlanc, Schwandt and Harris captured first in a time of 1:28.12, while the 200 yard medley "A" team of Harris, Butler, Bassett, Donaldson won in a time of 1:40.87.

On the Ladies side, Centenary defeated Austin College, 139 to 26 and Hendrix 131 to 59, but would fall to UALR, 97 to 95.

Centenary was led by Brittany Wilkens with two individual first place finishes in the 100 yard breast (1:10.86) and the 200 yard IM (2:16.86). Lauren Kloepfer captured two second place finishes in the 500 yard free (5:28.58) and the 1000 yard free (1:12.81).

Rachel Olson again took top honors for the second consecutive meet in the 100 yard butterfly (58.47), followed by teammate Hayley Schneider in third (1:01.64).

Laura Huning won the 100 yard free (55.91) and Aurora Owen placed third (58.90), while Cassie Cloutet earned a second place finish in the 200 yard free (2:00.85), while Michelle Gaubert (25.86) took second in the 50 yard free and Allison Jones (26.19) was close behind in third.

Rounding out the Ladies individual top three honors was Lauren Lassiter with a time of 1:01.72 in the 100 yard back.

In relay action, the Ladies 200 yard medley "A" squad of Lassiter, Wilkens, Olson and Huning captured first and the 200 yard free "A" squad of Huning, Gaubert, Olson and Jones (1:41.75) placed second.

Centenary will return to action on Friday, Oct. 29 at the Hendrix Classic beginning at 7 pm.
