Gents Golf Sits in Seventh After Opening Day of HBU Intercollegiate

MISSOURI CITY, Texas-The Centenary men's golf team struggled on Day 1 of the HBU Intercollegiate, firing a team score of 648 to sit in seventh place after two rounds at Quail Valley Golf Club.

The Gents (323-325, 648) were led by senior Greg Berthelot's 151 as he fired rounds of 78 and 73 to stand in a tie for 13th overall.

Senior Ryan Sparks followed in 33rd place with rounds of 78 and 82 for 160 total, while sophomore Jay Frazier (86-81) totaled 167 and senior Cannon Earp (81-89) finished with a two-round total of 170 for 45th and 47th place, respectively.

Centenary stands 80 shots over par and 49 shots out of the lead heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Leading the way in team standings in Oklahoma Christian (299-300, 599), while Nicholls State (291-313, 604) is five shots behind in second and Texas-Pan American (290-316, 606) rounds out the top three.

McNeese State's Mick Huffman (69-74) totaled 143 to lead all golfers on Day 1.

Centenary will wrap up its final round of the fall season on Tuesday beginning at 8 am.
