Berthelot Ties for Fifth, Gents Golf Takes Seventh at HBU Intercollegiate

MISSOURI CITY, Texas-Senior Greg Berthelot fires an even-par 71 in the final round of the HBU Intercollegiate to finish tied for 5th, while the Centenary men's golf team combined for a three-round total of 968 to finish seventh overall at Quail Valley Golf Club.

The Gents (323-325-320) managed to trim five strokes of their second round score to finish 74 shots out of the lead.

Berthelot's final round of 71 combined with rounds of 78 and 73 for a total of 222. Behind the Centenary-leader was senior Ryan Sparks (78-82-81) who finished 34th with a three-round total of 241.

Also contributing to the Gents' seventh place finish was senior Cannon Earp (81-89-81) in 44th place with a total of 251, followed by sophomore Jay Frazier (86-81-87) in a tie for 45th and a score of 254.

Nicholls State (291-313-290) fired off a final round of 290 to take over first place and capture the team title with an 894, three shots better than Oklahoma Christian (299-300-298) who finished second with a score of 897. Rounding out the top three was ULM (298-313-290) with a 901.

Individually, Nicholls' Kristjan Einarsson (70-80-67, 217) defeated ULM's Gustaf Kocken (69-80-68, 217) and McNeese's Mick Huffman (69-74-74, 217) in a three-way playoff to earn the tournament victory.

Centenary's Berthelot earned his second top-5 finish this fall.  The Gents will pick back up on Feb. 21-22 at the New Orleans Invitational.
