Gymnastics Welcomes Another to Squad

SHREVEPORT-Centenary College and head gymnastics coach Gretchen Goerlitz are pleased to announce that Ciara Maradiago has accepted the institution's offer of admission and will join the Ladies during the spring semester in hopes of competing this season.

"We are pleased that Ciara has chosen to make Centenary her new gymnastics home!  She is just coming back from a shoulder surgery, but looking very strong.  We are excited for her to start training with us next semester," said Goerlitz.

Maradiago, hails from Tyler, Texas and currently attends Tyler Junior College after graduating high school from King's Academy Christian School last year.

As a gymnast, Maradiago was a member of the Texas East Gymnastics club team out of Tyler for seven years under Martin and Stacy Parsley. During that time, she was named Level 8 Regional Champion, Level 9 State AA Champion and Regional Floor Champion as well as Western Beam Champion and a Level 10 Regional Qualifier.

Competing in every event, Maradiago has posted career high scores of 38.2 in the all-around, 9.5 on vault, 9.85 on bars, 9.8 on beam and 9.7 on floor.

She is the daughter of Illmer and Shannon Maradiago and looks to major in biology at Centenary in hopes of pursuing a career in physical therapy.

Maradiago joins four newcomers and 12 returners for the 2011 gymnastics season.
