Hello everyone... we've had quite a busy week.  We've played three games since my last update.  We played our first game at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX.  The atmosphere at the game was amazing.  SHSU had their "Pack the House" game and we played in front of what seemed like every single elementary student in Huntsville, TX.  Screaming, excited kids filled the gym.  And those kids cheered every minute of the game.  We didn't pick up a win at SHSU, but I saw a lot of positives that we as a team could build on.

Our second game of the season was at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK.  We left the Gold Dome for our seven hour trip to Stillwater at 7:00 am Friday morning.  After lunch in Tulsa we made it to our hotel for homework and rest time.  We had a quick scout meeting in the hotel and then it was off to practice at OSU. Since OSU paid for our hotel, we were able to travel Allison McClain, our Sport Information Director and Candace Rushing, our assistant SID.  They were a big help in practice.  I put them to work in practice passing and rebounding during position play.  After practice, it was back to the hotel for pizza and sleep.  We woke up early Saturday morning for our shoot-around at OSU.  Except for missing too many free throws, we had a good, productive shoot-around and I was excited for the game to get here.  We tipped off at 2pm.  We started the game with a ton of energy and executing our offense well.  We improved a great deal from our Sam Houston State game.  Our rotations on defense were much better and the girls we're able to make necessary adjustments throughout the game.  We had trouble stopping their posts players at the block.  We're still without Sarah Weiler, out senior post player.  In the end, OSU was just too much for us, but I was very excited about our effort all throughout the game.  I really feel like we grew as a team during our OSU game.

Last night, we played our third game of the season against ULM.  Their head coach, Mona Martin, is known for her aggressive pressing mentality, so we knew coming in that ULM would have an active press most of the game.  I felt like we started the game very slow and lacked intensity.  On top of that, one of our guards, Vashni had to come out of the game for a knee strain and she wasn't able to return for the remainder of the game. But injuries are part of basketball and we had to step up and step up quickly.  We finally started to get some stops on defense and hitting some big shots on offense. We got ourselves back with 12 at the half.  The second half, we continued to turn over the ball on too many careless passes.  We had 27 turnovers for the game, and that's just too many, especially playing a team like ULM who capitalized on our mistakes.  We ended up losing 61 - 87.  Again, we improved in more areas, but we have to be able to protect the basketball.

We have Wednesday and Thursday off so we'll have time to enjoy time with our families and get some much needed rest for some minor bumps and bruises.  Our next game is Tuesday, November 30th at Northwestern State University.  It's a double-header with the men.  We tip off at 5:45pm and the men follow.  Centenary SGA is sponsoring a fan bus for students to attend.  Check online for more details and we hope to see you there.

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and I appreciate you checking in every week to learn how the Ladies are doing.  Hope you enjoy the quote for the week.

"Your life is either a celebration or a chore.  The choice is yours."
