PREVIEW: Gents at NSU for I-49 Rivalry
Sunday, November 28, 2010
SHREVEPORT-Coming off a few days rest, the Centenary men's basketball team will travel to Northwestern State to take on the I-49 rival as part of a double-header with the Ladies. Gents are set to tip off at 7:45 pm in Natchitoches, La.

LAST TIME OUT
The Centenary men's basketball team was never able to gain any offensive momentum against LSU as the Tigers sent the Gents home with a 78-36 loss on Wednesday evening.

TWO FISH GET START
Adam Walsh's Centenary squad rosters nine freshmen as two more got starts against LSU on Wednesday. Logan Lowery and Andrew Rebol, having played well over the last few contests and who add size to this guard-built team, these two made a significant impact for the Gents in the forward position.

Lowery made his first start of the season, while Rebol's was his second consecutive in the starting five. On the season, at least four of the nine freshmen have appeared in the starting five for Centenary, including Quin Cooper and Jonathan Blount.

LEO LEADS WITH DOUBLE DIGITS
Sophomore Leo Davis paced the Gents against LSU with 10 points on a 4-of-11 shooting performance from the field. He drained two of the Gents' four treys and dished off one assist at the guard position. With the 10 points, that logged the second consecutive game that Davis has scored double-digits as he only has two games with at least 10 points in his short two-year career.

32 FOR 20; LOWERY MAKES MOST OF MINUTES
Logan Lowery played 32 minutes against LSU. A career-high for the young freshman and a game-high amongst his teammates. The forward pulled down a career-best eight points to lead Centenary, all eight coming from the defensive end. Despite only scoring three points, Lowery remained a consistent asset dishing off two assists, blocking one shot and making three steals. The Kingwood, Texas native made his first start of the season at LSU.

OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Offensively, junior Maxx Nakwaasah paces the scoring with 9.7 points per game and a 44 percent shooting effort (21-48) from the floor. Senior Roman Tubner follows with 8.6 ppg, but logs a team-best 16 assists.

DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Sophomore Jeron Trotman pulls down a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game and has blocked nine shots this season. Tubner leads with six steals and sophomore Travis Sims follows with six.

Centenary and NSU met just one week ago in the Gold Dome when the Demons defeated the Gents, 83-70 despite Centenary's best effort this season. Leading at half, the Gents saw its lead disappear when size and quickness by NSU began to take over. Nakwaasah led Centenary with 19 points and Lowery added 15 off the bench. NSU was led by Devon Baker and Will Pratt each with 22 points.

LOUISIANA RUN WRAPS UP
Centenary wraps up a four-game span playing in-state Louisiana rivals. The Gents began with Tulane back on Nov. 19 and will finish at NSU on Nov. 30 before beginning Summit League play. However, Centenary is not finished completely with the Bayou State schools as it plans to travel to UL-Monroe and UL-Lafayette later this season.

TIME TO TRAVEL
Centenary will be on the road for the next seven contests after having met LSU in Baton Rouge. The road span will last over one month as the Gents will not see action in the Gold Dome again until Dec. 28 after the Christmas holidays.

SCOUTING NSU
NSU hosts Centenary with a 3-3 record, having dropped a 100-66 contest at Indiana on Nov. 26. The Demons have an unusual rotation as their top two scoring leaders have not seen a start all season.

Will Pratt paces NSU with 21.0 points per game, followed by Devon Baker with 19.2 ppg. William Mosley pulls down a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game.

NSU-CENTENARY HISTORY
Centenary will meet for the second time in just over a week as part of the biggest rivalry in Gents basketball history. The two teams will meet for the 156th time on Tuesday.

Centenary leads the all-time series 83-72, but hasn't seen a victory since the 2007-08 season at home with a 105-90 win. NSU has won the last four contests, including two wins in a sweep during the 2008-09 season.
