"Full Court Press" w/ Coach K
Wednesday, December 15, 2010
Hi everyone.  I hope you've had a great week.  If you're like me, you've been fighting holiday shopping traffic and waiting in long lines with presents for family and friends.  In women's basketball, we've had some more ups and downs this week.  We had some good practices leading up to our game against UL-Lafayette.  Lafayette is a very athletic team so we knew that we would have to play solid defense and be able to handle their full court press.

Practice on Saturday went really well even though we only had limited players.  Sarah is still unable to do contact at practice due to her back.  Ashley had to take her LSAT so we were without her as well.  Despite not having everyone there and able to practice, we had a very productive practice.  The players had good intensity and improved on our defensive rotations and handling on ball traps.

Sunday's 8 am shoot-around went surprisingly well.  My kids are not exactly what you would call morning people.  Towards the end of shoot-around we had some friendly guards versus posts shooting competitions.  And I have to hand it to the post players.  They shot the lights out and crushed the guards.  I know the guards are waiting for their re-match.

Our 2 pm tip off finally arrived.  The first half against Lafayette, I felt like we did a great job of executing our game plan.  Our defensive rotations were there and we did a good job of handling the press, and forced Lafayette to get out of it.

Then it was halftime.  I really wish we could eliminate halftime and play straight through.  I'm not sure what happens in that 15 minutes, but we have yet to start a second half well.  And the same was true for our Lafayette game.  During the second half, we got away from what was working on defensive and started rushing our offense.  We started having too many turnovers and Lafayette capitalized on every single one.  In the end, our own mistakes cost us the game again.  We can't have that many turnovers against a team like Lafayette.

The players have had Monday and Tuesday off to rest and study for their final exams that are taking place this week.  We'll have today, Thursday, and Friday to prepare for our next game against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.

Hope you enjoy the following quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt.

"People acting together as a group can accomplish things which no individual acting alone could ever hope to bring about."
