Sunday, January 16, 2011
SHREVEPORT-With one minute remaining in Saturday's contest, senior Ashley Jackson of the Centenary women's basketball team scored her 1,000th career point, becoming just the fourth member in Ladies basketball history to reach this milestone.

The four-year letterwinner scored 16 points in the loss to Southern Utah, but now sits with exactly 1,000 points to her name with 11 games left to play this season.

Jackson comes from a family of Centenary greats as her father, Willie and mother, Zebber each reign in the Centenary Athletic Hall of Fame for their efforts on the basketball courts during the 1980's.

With 1,000 points, Jackson is six points away from becoming third on the all-time points list and 39 from becoming second all-time. Currently leading the way is Alexis Pettway with 1,416 during the 2000-04 seasons. Following her is Julie Daniels with 1,038 (2000-04), and Holli Wilkins with 1,005 (2003-07).

Jackson has scored double-figures 48 times in her career and 10th this season.

Her current career high came against IPFW on December 21, 2010 of this season in a 25-point effort.

"Ashley receiving 1,000 career points is a huge accomplishment for her as a Centenary Ladies basketball player," said head coach Kristen Davis.

"Ashley has worked for every point she has scored and I know she will continue to work hard for our team. The entire Centenary family is proud of Ashley."
