Ladies Face Unbeaten ORU in 92-55 Fall

TULSA, Okla.-Facing the undefeated Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, the Centenary women's basketball team was challenged with a strong offensive game, dropping its Saturday afternoon contest in Tulsa, Okla., 92-55.

The Ladies (0-16, 0-9 Summit) gave Oral Roberts (13-7, 9-0 Summit) a test on the boards, matching in first-half rebounds, but turnovers by Centenary and a 47 shooting performance by the Golden Eagles kept them unbeaten in league play.

Centenary was led offensively by senior Anne Farrell with 16 points. She was followed in scoring by senior Ashley Jackson with 12 and freshman Kat Vidovic with 11.

Oral Roberts opened with eight unanswered points before Centenary's Farrell would put the Ladies on board with a mid-ranger jumper at the 17:30 mark. The Golden Eagles built a 12-2 lead before Daniel would sink a three.

Centenary challenged Oral Roberts on the defensive end over the next three minutes, as Vidovic scored five straight for the Ladies to make it a 16-10 game. Over the next six minutes, Jackson and Farrell combined to score all 10 points for the Ladies to keep the score within eight at 28-20.

Oral Roberts began to force the Ladies into several turnovers, which sparked a 10-3 run to go up 38-23 with under four minutes to play. In the final minutes of play in the opening half, Centenary wasn't able to execute on the offensive end, as it were challenged by the Oral Roberts defense, committing 22 first-half turnovers.

The Golden Eagles went up 45-29 at half after going on a late 7-2 tilt.

Oral Roberts' 11-0 run to open the second half gave way to a 27-point advantage (56-29) before Farrell's jumper at the 15:40 mark gave Centenary its first score of the half. Sophomore Ne-Ne Cook had back-to-back jumpers for the Ladies, but Oral Roberts' three-point game continued to shine as they pulled ahead by 30 (68-38) with 11 minutes to play.

After a Vidovic three-pointer, Centenary was held without a basket for four minutes as Oral Roberts produced 13 unanswered points for a 75-40 lead with eight minutes to play.

Freshman Tandrea Shamblin, off the bench, in just 11 minutes of play, grabbed four rebounds and had six points, but Oral Roberts' offense showed too strong, as it went ahead 86-52 with three minutes remaining.

Centenary shot 38 percent (22-58) from the floor, and hit 7-of-11 from the charity stripe for 64 percent. Behind Farrell, Jackson and Vidovic in scoring was Shamblin with a career-tying six points.

Oral Roberts was led by Kevi Luper with 24 points and Jaci Bigham with 22.

The Ladies were out rebounded by just nine, 45 to 36. Jackson pulled down eight boards for Centenary, while Farrell had seven.

The Golden Eagles forced Centenary into 32 turnovers, a season-high, on 22 steals and executed 33 points off the mistakes.

Centenary will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 29 when it travels to Oakland for a 2:30 pm contest in Rochester, Mich.
