Sunday, January 30, 2011
SHREVEPORT-With the winter season slowly disappearing, the Centenary golf teams prepare to kick off their respective seasons under head coach Emlyn Aubrey as Centenary's Hal Sutton Invitational highlights the 2011 schedule.

"We are excited to get our athletes the needed experience as they learn what they need to do to better. All of them have put up some good scores over the course of their career. Our men have the ability this season to post some good numbers and earn their first victory in a long time. The schedule this spring allows the teams to be very competitive," said Aubrey.

The Gents are scheduled to play in four spring tournaments prior to The Summit League Championship, which is held in Primm, Nev. on April 18-19. Centenary opens at Henderson State's Invitational on Feb. 21-22 in Glenwood, Ark.

Centenary will host the Hal Sutton Invitational on March 28-29 at the Golf Club at Stonebridge. Also scheduled are the LSU Invitational (April 2) and the LeTourneau Intercollegiate (April 11-12).

Aubrey rosters seven on the Gents roster and of the seven, four are seniors in Greg Berthelot, Cannon Earp, Jason Harris and Ryan Sparks. Centenary also rosters sophomores Chris David and Jay Frazier and welcomes freshman Brandon Sledge to the squad.

"Consistency will be our biggest obstacle, but with our three seniors and their experience, we should hang in there and do well," said Aubrey.

Berthelot led the team in fall play with a 74.3 stroke average in 11 rounds played.

The Ladies are scheduled to play in four spring tournaments as well prior to The Summit League Championship, which is also held in Primm, Nev. on April 18-19. Centenary opens the spring season at the University of South Alabama's Invitational on Feb. 28-March 1 in Mobile, Ala.

The women's team will also join the men by playing in the Hal Sutton Invitational on March 28-29 at Stonebridge. Also scheduled for the Ladies this season are tournaments at Midwestern State (March 21-22) and LeTourneau (April 11-12).

Centenary rosters three sophomores and two freshmen under Aubrey. Leading the way are sophomores Justine Kemp, Rachel Grinnell and Kyndal Rose. The Ladies welcome freshmen Sarah Bradshaw and Kylee Goldthorn to the team.

"We are getting better each time we play, but are fighting consistency, which is normal for young players. Every tournament is one step closer in experience," said Aubrey.

Rose paced the squad all fall after posting an 81.3 stroke average in 11 rounds played.

"Again, our plan is to gain some confidence in the athletes' game throughout the spring and go beat as many teams as possible for our Summit League bow out," said Aubrey.
