Ladies Wrap Up Road Trip with Loss at IPFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind.-The Centenary women's basketball team will return home from their three-game road trip after IPFW handed them an 89-43 loss on Monday evening in Summit League play.

The Ladies (0-18, 0-11 Summit) were led by senior Anne Farrell's 11 points. Sophomores Ne-Ne Cook and Jalena Sanders added eight, while senior Ashley Jackson contributed with six.

Farrell scored the first five points for Centenary, but IPFW got off to a quick start, going up 12-5 in the early going.

Junior Megan Daniel drained a three and drove to the basket for two near the 11:30 mark to pull within eight at 22-14. The Mastodons stayed consistent and extended their lead to 34-16 even after Cook sank two free throws for the Ladies.

Centenary got a strong effort inside from Farrell and Sanders, who combined for eight points as the Ladies produced an 8-4 run to narrow the deficit by 14 (38-24) with 2:30 remaining in the first half.

Cook remained perfect from the free throw line, hitting two in the final 30 seconds, but a late Centenary foul would send the Mastodons to the line for two to cap off the first half, leading 42-26.

An opening 14-3 run for IPFW gave it a 56-29 lead, despite a three by freshman Kat Vidovic at the 17:10 mark. Sanders continued to produce inside with a jumper and two free throws for four straight points for the Ladies.

Cook's jumper at 11:50 was the last set of points Centenary saw until the 6:26 mark, as IPFW added 13 unanswered points to gain a 73-35 lead with just over six minutes to play.

The Mastodons took advantage of Centenary fouls all night, connecting at the charity stripe, including four straight in 13 seconds of play. IPFW used a 10-2 run for an 85-41, holding Centenary without a field goal for three minutes.

Jackson's two with 2:29 left was the Ladies last field goal of the game. IPFW finished with four points.

Centenary shot 37 percent (15-41) from the floor, but connected on just two three pointers for 13 percent. The Ladies were 9-of-9 from the free throw line in the first half, but finished 11-of-16 for 69 percent.  

Cook had five steals for the Ladies.

IPFW was better from the field at 57 percent (31-54) and hit 92 percent (24-26) from the free throw line. The Mastodons were led by Chelsey Jackson's game-high 23 points and 10-of-10 effort from the free throw line.

Centenary was out rebounded, 36 to 17. Daniel led the Ladies with five boards.

IPFW forced Centenary into 23 turnovers.

The Ladies will return to Shreveport and is set to meet South Dakota State on Saturday at 2 pm in the Gold Dome. The game will serve as the Homecoming 2011 game and fans are admitted free of charge.
