Gents Soccer Set to Play Lone Spring Game on March 24

SHREVEPORT-Head men's soccer coach David Orr announced that the Centenary men's soccer team will play host to Tyler Junior College on Thursday, March 24 at 6 pm on Mayo Field for its only Spring contest.

"The Spring season allows us to evaluate where we're headed as a team for next Fall. We use this time to build technically and tactically. Since "the game is the best teacher" we use this game to do just that-teach," said Orr.

The Gents are coming off a 2-7-2 record this season and a 1-3-2 record in the final year of The Summit League. Centenary earned respect late in the year as it was only one win away from a chance at competing in the conference tournament.

Centenary was led by senior Heath Cox with six goals, while juniors Tate McIntyre (3 assists, 1 goal) and Marcos Rodriguez (2 assists, 1 goal) each contributed on the offensive end.

Senior Rennie Walker played 792 minutes in goal, recording 47 saves, while sophomore Robbie Ramirez made four starts and played 237 minutes with 14 saves.

"I expect a great game and tons of teachable moments to draw from as we move into the summer and preseason," said Orr.

Centenary will compete at the DIII level beginning this Fall as part of the American Southwest Conference. The Fall 2011 schedule will be released soon.
